On February 27, CWA took action and filed a record-breaking 23,000+ staffing complaints with the Department of Health. These complaints document the reality we face every day:
🚨 Being forced to work short and do more with less
🚨 Missing breaks and meals
🚨 Adding extra job duties to our plates because the unit is missing essential staff like monitor techs, unit clerks, and charge nurses
🚨 Not being able to provide the care our patients deserve
Filing these complaints is one of the most powerful tools we have to demand accountability from the State and our Hospitals.
If you work in Montefiore Nyack Hospital start standing up and file these complaints instead of just sitting on the side line. Get in the game and fight. Talk to your Business Agent to find out how.
We hear too often about a healthcare worker shortage… but we know the truth: It’s not a shortage of workers, it’s a shortage of good jobs. We deserve the working conditions that will allow us to focus on what we love: caring for our patients.
The last time we filed complaints, the DOH conducted surprise investigations at some hospitals that led to significant improvements in patient care and working conditions. But in too many hospitals, little or nothing changed—and that’s unacceptable. The DOH is legally required to enforce this law, and our hospitals are required to ensure adequate staffing - and we won’t stop until they do.
Join us for CWA’s Healthcare Worker Town Hall to discuss what’s next in our fight:

We’ll be covering:
☑️ The impact of our historic complaint drop, including recent press coverage
☑️ A new CWA report on the state of staffing
☑️ Our next steps to hold the DOH and hospitals accountable to the law
We’ve been in this fight for a long time, but we won’t stop until we have what we need to do our job on the frontlines– and patients get the care they deserve. Safe staffing can’t wait. Let’s keep up the fight!
