Telecom Fight for Your Job

On May 16th, the New York Public Service Commission held a hearing on Verizon's attempt to abandon landlines in New York. Verizon attempted to amend its tariff so that the company could abandon copper wire in favor of a wireless alternative, called Voice Link. While Verizon focused on the west end of Fire Island, its amended tariff would have applied to all of New York State.
CWA leadership mobilized to curtail Verizon efforts to eliminate our jobs across NYS and with the help of the NYS the Attorney General & Assemblymen Brennan the PSC only granted limited approval that will apply to Fire Island only, while they continue to review the issue and weigh public comment. Yet, this fight is not over. Your LPAT members and Chief Stewards will be presenting our program to stop Verizon from cutting thousands of jobs. We need every Members co-operation and support these efforts. Protecting our jobs is every Member’s job.
CWA Locals have been lobbying NYS lawmakers each week and will continue throughout the session to fight for our jobs. Talk to your LPAT Member and Chief Stewart today and ask them what can you do to support the fight for our jobs.
